This entire month since the announcement of USICS increasing its filing fees; many people panicked and many worried on whether they would be able to afford to pay these fees if they were unable to file before the deadline of October 2nd. According to Immigration Impact, “The decision in Immigrant Legal Resources Center v. Wolf granted a motion for a preliminary injunction, which prevents the government from going forward with the new rule while the court makes a final decision on the case”.

Many sighed of relief upon knowing USCIS would halt these fees because it will give people some time to submit applications without having to pay the outrages fees USCIS will increase.

Before USCIS implemented that they would provide interpreters at asylum interviews, the person was in charge of finding their own interpreter. Many times it would be a difficult task because one, the person was unable to afford it or two they would not know where to find one.

The Covid19 pandemic occurring around the United States and all around the world have impacted many people. Recently, the Trump administration has stated that they believe the corona virus will go away, but US department does not believe it will.

ICE has been trying to enforce many states to help with detaining people who are suspected noncitizens. One of those states has been Florida. According to Immigration Impact,  “The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) recently announced that it has signed a 287(g) agreement with ICE”.

The 287(g) is a regulation that allows law enforcement, state and local police to detain or interrogate people who are or seem undocumented.

With all the recent changes there has been in the immigration system; the regulations have caused a major delay with processing citizenship applications all around the United States. According to Immigration Impact, because Trump has made many changed in the system many will not be able to vote in this years election.

It is known that many individuals who are detained in detention centers do not get the proper care when sick. This issue escalated worse when the Covid-19 pandemic hit the United States because this meant that people who were detained were at larger risk of contracting the virus.

The administration has used the economic situation the United States is currently facing as an excuse for this travel ban against immigrants claiming, the less immigrants who come to try to work in the states with a working visa the more jobs there will be for Americans.

According to an article published by Immigration Impact, DHS has recently announced they are going to collect more date during biometrics appointments. Biometrics already collects data informing immigration about the person. But this new regulation may put many in a very vulnerable situation.

Recently, Trump has implemented new regulations for asylum applicants on top of the fact that he has already made it extremely difficult for asylum seekers to get a chance to even apply for asylum. In a recent article published by, Immigration Impact, explains how Trump quickly trained border patrol agents to conduct “credible fear interviews”.

Lets keep in mind these interviews are crucial for those who are seeking asylum, given these are essential interviews and could potentially be the reason for their asylums to get granted.
