Public Charge Halted

March 9th marked the day that the Biden Administration put a stop to the public charge. This was able to put many people at ease because this rule that went into effect February 2020 prevented low-income immigrants from obtaining their green cards.

This means that those applying for an adjustment of status within the US after March 9 will no longer be required to fill out an I-944 self-sufficiency. Many applicants who submitted this when submitting their application will not be taken into consideration. Petitions in which are submitted after March 9th will no longer require this extra step any longer.

Though the public charge rule may not get thrown away completely, most likely immigration will replace this with a simpler version from 1999. Still. This new change to the immigration system has came to great relief to many immigrants looking to apply for their adjustment of status.
