Immigration One year after Covid-19

The pandemic affected many people around the world in terms of immigration. Many bans were set by the Trump administration since the pandemic began. First, Trump banned people from China then he banned all foreign nationals from European countries for 30 days. Then finally, he banned the entire legal immigration system as a whole, preventing family members of US citizens from entering the country legally. This really put a strain not only to the immigration system but also to many families.

Luckily, the Biden administration has began lifting bans slowly amid the covid shot. According to an article by Immigration Impact, “President Biden signed an executive order that lifted the immigrant visa ban on February 24, 2021. This allowed family members of U.S. citizens and green card holders to begin the process of reuniting with their families in the United States. It also lifted the ban on people immigrating through their employers and the diversity visa lottery program”. This has allowed our country to feel like it is slowly going back to normal and also able to provide opportunities to immigrants once again.
