ICE announced that they would be making changed to the detention centers by facilitating covid-19 test for families, arranging travel for them and will allow them to be released within three days. This plan is in effort to improve the horrible conditions many immigrants had to undergo during the Trump administration.
They also want to rename them and call them “reception centers” so they sound more welcoming and less overwhelming. Biden plans to completely end family detention, but this proposal has yet to pass. Though there are still many concerns around this issue, the government should still provide organizations with the basic necessities for individuals who are in custody. ICE has upheld a bad reputation for a long; it is time the Biden administration step in to make a change towards the immigration system, especially in the detention center area.
