Former president Trump was deporting many children and families without giving them the opportunity to seek protection in the United States. Families arriving from Guatemala, Honduras or El Salvador were simply turned back to their countries, this too was happening to unaccompanied children. According to an article posted by Immigration Impact,” 13,000 unaccompanied children had already been deported back to their home countries without a chance to seek protection”.
Even after the Biden took over office, the number of people seeking protection hasn’t decreased but the number of children crossing has decreased. While many are being deported back to their countries, many families are being admitted and covid tested and placed on quarantine.
