Census

With the recent changes that trump has spoken about to not count immigrants has caused a major outburst. Many individuals living in the US are not legal in the country, knowing that individuals will come to your door and you will have to disclaim whether you are legal or illegal makes many families and communities feel unsteady.

If the government gathers the data without counting those who are living in the US undocumented, it could cause inaccurate information. According to an article published by Immigration Impact, “There is a racist history of the census denying the humanity of certain groups of people, reaching back to the exclusion of Indigenous people and the purposeful undervaluation of Black people for most of our country’s first century”. The United States does not need to continue the cycle of discriminating against individuals, we live in a country where we are free and we should not have to disclose what the individual’s immigration status is.
