Back in 2020, USCIS created a revised naturalization civics test implemented by Trump's administration which made it more difficult for many learners of the English language to pass. Although the test took effect in December 2020, it was more complex than the 2008 version, with applicants required to answer 12 out of 20 questions correctly instead of just 6 out of 10. This test added a barrier to immigrants who hoped to become citizens of the United States.
USCIS announced that on March 1st, it’ll be going back to the 2008 version of the naturalization civics test to increase pass rates and better opportunities for immigrants to become citizens. Those who filed their application for naturalization before December 1 of 2020, will be able to take the 2008 civics test, as well as those who filed their application on or after March 1st of 2020. This will eliminate multiple barriers for many immigrants and make the process more facile for all eligible individuals.
