The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has extended the re-registration periods for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) under the designations of El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua, and Sudan from 60 days to 18 months.

The new re-registration periods are as follows:

  • El Salvador: Now extended through March 9, 2025.
  • Haiti: Now extended through August 3, 2024.
  • Honduras: Now extended through July 5, 2025.
  • Nepal: Now extended through June 24, 2025.
  • Nicaragua: Now extended through July 5, 2025.
  • Sudan: Now extended through April 19, 2025.

This extension allows TPS beneficiaries to submit Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status, and Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, at any time during the 18-month extensions for these six countries.

Notably:

  • TPS beneficiaries under the El Salvador designation can re-register beyond the Sept. 10, 2023, expiration date.
  • TPS beneficiaries under the Haiti designation can re-register beyond the March 27, 2023, expiration date.
  • TPS beneficiaries under the Sudan designation can re-register beyond the Oct. 20, 2023, expiration date.

This announcement does not alter the previously announced extensions of TPS designations or change eligibility requirements; it simply extends the period for existing beneficiaries to re-register for their benefits. A Federal Register notice for this re-registration extension will be published soon.
