Benefits of obtaining US citizenship

Many people call California and other parts of the United States their home even though they were born elsewhere. Though numerous individuals have a different country of origin, they have lived in the United States, built their lives and developed a loyalty that has made them want to stay permanently. Additionally, a considerable number of these people also want to obtain citizenship.

Being a citizen of the United States offers benefits that having legal permanent residency does not. For instance, individuals who complete the naturalization process obtain the ability to vote in federal elections and become eligible to apply for jobs with government agencies if they wish. A citizen could also run for office in hopes of becoming an elected official.

After obtaining citizenship, if a person leaves the United States, he or she can travel with a U.S. passport. This passport would allow the individual to receive help from the U.S. government even when outside the country. If a person has a child while outside the country, the parent's citizenship would allow for birth-right citizenship to apply to the child.

Of course, the process to become a naturalized citizen is not easy. It takes years and hard work to achieve this goal, and any mistakes could completely wreck an application. Fortunately, interested individuals can enlist the help of California immigration law attorneys who can explain the naturalization process, help gather needed information, reduce the chances of mistakes and assist in other ways throughout the process of working toward citizenship.
