Journalist seeks asylum while facing possible deportation

Being in a dangerous situation can often result in individuals wanting to have a safe place to stay. For immigrants, the idea of being deported back to their countries of origin could fill them with fear due to the actions they could face upon their returns. As a result, many people hope to gain asylum in the United States to avoid negative outcomes.

California residents may be interested in one man who is hoping to find such a safe haven. Reports stated that the man is a journalist from Mexico who came to the United States in 2008 after he made a report regarding abuses by military authorities in his native country, which resulted in his being placed on a hit list. As a result, the man and his son applied for asylum in this country. Their applications were denied.

As a result, they now face deportation to a country where officials have called for the man's death. They were taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement while they were attempting to appeal their application denials. Many individuals in the journalism community have shown support for the man and his son.

Seeking asylum can often help individuals avoid a dangerous or even potentially deadly situation. However, as this case shows, this safety is not easy to gain. If individuals in California would like to seek asylum in the United States, they may wish to speak with experienced immigration law attorneys. These individuals could provide helpful information on application proceedings and how to handle denials and appeals.
